On Wednesday 6th November a number of members of Crest of Mount Edgcumbe Lodge visited the Grand Temple of UGLE in Great Queen Street London to support W.Bro George Kyriacou in obtaining London Grand Rank. George was invested with his LGR Collar by W.Bro Warren Duke, Metropolitan Grand Master. During the proceedings there was a presentation to the London Air Ambulance Charity of three million pounds, this fantastic amount being raised in less than two years by London Freemasons, and Crest of Mount Edgcumbe Lodge is proud to have contributed to this. Saturday 28th September 2024 saw a very unique and historic event in the history of Crest of Mount Edgcumbe Lodge. We undertook two ceremonies in the one meeting. Firstly we raised Brother Julian Bertie to the degree of a Master Mason on behalf of McMahon Lodge, this was done under the auspices of the 86 St James association who promote visiting between the Lodges that meet at Mark Mason’s hall in St James St London SW1A 1PL. The ceremony was carried out by W.Bro David Wilmot, our Worshipful Master, assisted by his officers and also officers from McMahon Lodge. Then after a short break for tea we Initiated Mr Connor Read into the Crest of Mount Edgcumbe Lodge No 7431. This ceremony was carried out by W.Bro Andy Symonds our IPM , again assisted by our officers and also an officer from McMahon Lodge. The Working tools were presented by a visitor, Bro Amir, who initially introduced Connor to our Lodge. After the meeting we all retired to the bar for a well earned drink! Members of both Lodges then joined together for a very convivial Festive Board of a sumptuous carvery. The raffle was very well supported again by both Lodges and everyone went home tired but happy after a truly memorable day.

A Heartfelt message from W. Bro David Wilmot

My Father proposed me into the Crest of Mount Edgcumbe Lodge No 7431 and I became a Freemason in December 1975.
My Lodge is special, I am sure many Freemasons say that! As well as giving regular support to charities we support one another in good times and in difficult times. Sometimes words of comfort, advice or empathy are all that are required; other times we ‘huddle’ round and look for practical ways to support.
I have just experienced the closeness and love between the members of my Lodge.
My Brother-in-law was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia some months ago. He has suffered several strokes and, a recent seizure has left him very dependent upon my sister. He requires support with dressing and undressing; washing; climbing the stairs; even making a cup of tea. He cannot be left on his own and has had to give up driving; his memory is showing the distinct signs of worsening dementia.
After removing the bath and providing my Brother-in-law with a walk in shower, I asked the Lodge Almoner to see if the MCF would support the installation of a Stair Lift.
Sadly, this request did not meet the criteria laid down within the MCF. My tenacious Lodge Almoner then applied to the Grand Charity for matched funding. My Lodge came together and were unanimous in their support, they pledged £2000 towards the Stair Lift.
Unfortunately, the application for matched funding was unsuccessful because, despite my sister being the daughter of a Freemason, my Brother-in-Law is not a Freemason.
With the £2,000 pledged by my Lodge, and with my own financial support, the Stair Lift has been installed and has already made such a difference. My Brother-in-Law no longer struggles up and down the stairs and my sister no longer has to walk behind or in front of him to prevent him falling.
The support from my Lodge has made me proud and thankful to be a member of such a band of Brothers known as the Crest of Mount Edgcumbe Lodge 7431.

Here is a very happy Brother-in-Law on his stair lift
